To capture the relations between the current pandemic and storytelling as a narratological, psychological, medical and historical phenomenon, this event series includes viewpoints from different disciplines on pandemic storytelling. Therefore, renowned scholars from disciplines such as narratology, linguistics, cultural studies and literary studies, history, narrative medicine and illness narratives will use this event series to engage with us in an interdisciplinary discussion of the relations between pandemics and storytelling.

Workshop "The Study of Literature, Reading, and Cognition: Interdisciplinary Approaches, Concepts, and Terms"

The Aachen Center for Cognitive and Empirical Literary Studies (ACCELS) hosted a two-day online workshop on "The Study of Literature, Reading, and Cognition: Interdisciplinary Approaches, Concepts, and Terms" in October (5th-6th) 2020.The aim of the workshop was to install a transdisciplinary dialogue (or polylogue, rather) between psychology, literary studies, and linguistics. Panels focused on concepts that are potentially problematic because of their use in multiple contexts, their fuzziness, their metaphoricity, etc.

Course of Study Key Info

The activities of the Aachen Center for Cognitive and Empirical Literary Studies cover smaller workshops, lecture series featuring international specialists, and larger conferences. The ACCELS profile, however, is also effective in our teaching in the M.A. Literary Studies and Linguistics. Students will thus be engaged in current research and can contribute to it in their Master theses. As with the scholars active in the academic events, interdisciplinary profiles are also welcomen in teaching and in the final theses.
